At Gillman Strategic Group, we have refined our process over time to help our candidates find their exact right perfect fit at a new firm. Our process includes the following four critical steps:
Creating a connection
The first step is a meeting with one of our law firm matchmakers. During that meeting, we will discuss your concerns about your current firm and goals you have for your future. We understand that lawyers bill by the hour. Therefore, you don’t have time to waste, so we will keep the first meeting brief (unless you would like to talk longer). We hope that you will get a feel for how we are truly interested in helping you, not just trying to fit you into a position that may not be right for you. We’ll also be honest with you and tell you upfront if we don’t think we can help.
Crafting your plan
Once we have decided to work together, the next step is a longer meeting. During the meeting, we will get to know you as well as possible so we can find your perfect match. Each law firm rainmaker has their own wish list for what they are seeking – not everybody wants more money or more time at home. We care about what you are looking for, not what others think you should be looking for. You should be prepared to discuss your wish list for a new firm, what would be “deal breakers,” and where you are flexible in your desires. We’ll help you prepare a business plan if you don’t already have one. Then we’ll work with you to identify a list of target firms. We’ll suggest a nice array of firms to consider and then work with you to narrow it down.
Connecting with firms
Once we have identified the list of firms you are interested in, we will proceed with submitting your business plan and practice description to those firms. Your time is valuable, so we are with you each step of the way. The only thing we can’t do for you is go to the interview. We will take care of writing and submitting needed materials, scheduling the interviews, and following up with firms after your interview. We will help you prepare for your interviews, answer any questions you have, and debrief you afterwards.
Closing your deal
Once you have interviewed with interested firms and submitted all the necessary information, we help you decide from which to entertain offers. Then, we help you negotiate those offers so you get what you are looking for. We also make sure you have a smooth transition to your new firm and we stay in touch afterward to make sure you are happy long term.
